Futuristic Discovery Treehouse

Reference Pictures and Inspiration for Detail Work

These reference/ inspiration pictures will guide me on how to add detail and texture to my model. Emulating certain parts to make my model more believable and realistic, plus appear even more futuristic and SciFi like.

Youtube Videos on Substance Painter

Symmetry Tool

This youtube video taught me how to use the symmetry tool, Symmetry is the action of painting in multiple locations at the same time based on geometric constraints. This allows me to create the same detail on the opposite side depending on the setting of my symmetry tool. This is super useful as it speeds up the process of not doing the same detail again in another area, and also creates perfect architecture as modern buildings are usually flawless.

Custom Alphas

Above is a Youtube video on importing custom alphas. Alpha is a mask that can be used to paint details or complex shapes. The video also shows you how to make your own alphas to use in Substance Painter. This is super useful as my house has a lot of indents and details that are in specific shapes, using an alpha can help achieve the details I want. Below is a few examples of alphas I have downloaded, these alphas are for hard surface detailing, perfect for mechanical and SciFi elements, which suits my theme.

Emissive Materials

This tutorial taught me how to use emissive materials in Substance Painter, which is useful as I wanted my tubes and some of the details for the house to glow, as it will bring life to my treehouse, and make it feel like people are using this massive building. The glowing material also enhances the futuristic theme.

Here are all the tools combined and adding textures and details with different layers, masks, and effects making my treehouse seem as realistic as possible.
