Silhouette

Silhouette design is a very powerful way of designing characters, props, and environments. It is a great way to make designs have a strong shape, memorable visual appeal and stand out from the rest. Hence, I created 6 different futuristic treehouses. I wanted to use the research I have done on Sci-Fi movies like star wars and The Martian to create a space like structure.
Value Art

I did 4 studies on Value art, this taught me the importance of composition and lighting. Accurate shading is what gives an object volume, shape, and dimension. It’s also what tells the viewer where light is coming from.

I used the methods I learned in my value art studies to create value art for my treehouse. After more thought, and discussion with Ryan, we both agreed that my design looked more like a spaceship than a futuristic treehouse. Therefore I redid my designs.
Silhouette 2.0

From my discussion with Ryan, he suggested exploring more on what I think the future would look like than imagine what the general public/ the majority think futuristic means, it does not always have to be in space and Star wars. So I redesigned my idea, making my tree look more organic than made up of metal parts. I also added leaf-like components to reinforce it is actually a treehouse.
Final Silhouette

I wanted my treehouse to look more impressive, as one tree by itself looks really lonely and sad, therefore I decided to have three trees, one in the middle as the main big tree. Three trees also help balance out the composition and add more interesting movement to the model, like how there are tubes going everywhere connecting the trees together.
I also used black for the ‘house’ to differentiate from the grey trees, this makes it easier to see the silhouette of each part.

A quick drop down of ideas on what I want my treehouse to be composed of and to generate ideas of the usage of each element and parts of the treehouse. This allows me to clearly display my thoughts.
